You won’t find Swedish indie hit Lykke Li with an overly complicated or colorful ensemble. Of her personal style, she says “If I have the choice, I’ll always go for black, white or grey, but not all at the same time. I like having a simple look.” However, a basic color pallette doesn’t stop the starlet from capturing the fashion spotlight. Li’s perfect blend of vintage and designer threads will continue to captivate us for many events to come.
The combination of rap with rock vocals has been a recent trend in the music industry with collaborations of epic standards in the rock and rap worlds. While the two genres may seem like polar opposites combined they create a new genre of music that is unparalleled in possibilities.
The trend seems to have started with Coldplay’s Chris Martin with Kanye West collaborating. Now even Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) and Cypress Hill are working together. The hit song “Airplanes” is also a collaboration between rapper B.O.B. and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.
So who will be the next collaboration? Could it be Death Cab for Cutie’s front man Ben Gibbard with Jay Z or perhaps the Killers lead singer Brandon Flowers with Snoop Dogg? The possibilities are endless and it’s only a matter of time before we see another collaboration of this sort.
It looks like the country-pop princess Taylor Swift will not be a one album success. Her second album “Speak Now” has debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 at number one. Beating Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are.”
Now the real question is what will Taylor do next? How much longer can this twenty year old keep writing pop/country songs about teenage love before it becomes out of place? Perhaps, her music will mature as she does. Whatever the case is I’m sure most of us can’t deny we all secretly love to sing along to her catchy tunes when they come on the radio.
Thank goodness good music once again prevails! After a brief hiatus beginning last fall, the boys of Nightmare of You announced that they are slowly starting to get back into the swing of things.
